VVWA’s Plan Of Action As Mandated Agency For Waste Management

On action plan and initiatives undertaken by VVWA on waste management, this is what President VVWA, Gurpreet Bindra, has said:

The Government has promulgated the Waste Management rules 2016. MCD is the nodal agency in our area to ensure execution and compliance with these rules. MCD, in turn has nominated VVWA as their mandated agency to carry out the work across the entire Vasant Vihar. VVWA has nominated Chintan to be its associated partner and provide the technical expertise required. It will not be out of place to mention that Chintan is on the approved list of MCD as a NGO, fully competent to undertake waste management across MCD.

The rules of waste management are quite simple. All household waste is segregated into dry and wet waste. Dry waste is recycled whereas wet waste is led to composting pits/machines where it is converted to manure. It is our intention to consume this manure within our Vasant Vihar gardens, and in parks.

Currently, waste management is being carried out in A, C and D Blocks. E Block has been taken up. Gradually B & F Blocks will also be taken up.

A major factor in improving our waste management system as also giving it a big boost – is the commissioning of a Compactor next week. VVWA has wanted this for a long time and have actively worked on this.

Currently, VVWA is working on a plan to cover the entire colony by composting pits/machines. We expect to complete this in the next 3-4 months. This would constitute a major step in achieving our goal of a zero-waste colony.

To ensure a clean environment, it is essential to close the DHALAOS However, it should be clearly understood that the Dhalaos cannot be closed till such time the residents segregate their waste and stop bringing unsegregated waste to the Dhalaos.  If segregation of dry and wet waste is carried out in Dhalaos then a dirty Dhalao leads to a dirty environment.

VVWA is working extremely hard on this project and with the cooperation of our residents, we are confident of success. It is also vital to have “ONE COLONY, ONE SYSTEM”.
