Sarika Puri – Glamour of GK2

If you can win over your mind, you can win over the whole world – Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar

This month we bring to you a person extraordinaire, a Holistic Wellbeing practitioner, a Life and Career coach but above all a Pianist par excellence – Sarika Puri. A young mother to seven month-old Ruveer, Sarika’s journey has been an exceptional one. Let’s hear it from her:

“Born in London, we moved to Delhi GK2 S block when I was 8 years old – a few years later moved to GK1 and then back to GK2 E block when I got married. Been a globetrotter past few years having lived in Mumbai, New York, and Bangalore too.

A Delhi University graduate in Economics & Math from Jesus and Mary College, I pursued an MBA in HR and Marketing from Amity Business School and Postbaccalaureate Program in Organization Behavior, Entrepreneurship, Leadership, Culture, and Negotiation from Columbia University, New York. Extremely creative since childhood – I enjoyed dancing, painting, singing, and of course Piano. I was the showstopper at a fashion show in high school and won over 20 dance competitions at DU during my undergrad. In addition, I completed Grade 7 in Music from Trinity College London.

Glamor and fashion for me is being centered, grounded, and balanced in your mind, body, and soul. Be an inspiration by sharing positive energy and vibrations, be a role model, and never stop being a student! I have been an active practitioner of Buddhism for over 13 years, an advanced yoga practitioner from Art of Living and Transcendental Meditation for 8 years, a pianist for 15 years, and a dancer since high school. I also completed level one of Meipadam and Karlakattai (Indian Martial Arts) 2 years ago and studied WILDFIT by Eric Edmeades 5 years ago (Mindvalley program) which helps in transforming your relationship with food.

I started teaching Piano at the age of 21, at Theme Music School in Delhi. My music journey took me to Furtados in Mumbai and Steinway in New York. One of the high points in my life was when I taught Anupam Kher the Indian national anthem in New York which went viral on social media. I started Soul Piano a few years ago, a music educational institute where we impart knowledge to students of all ages – learn how to read, write, and play piano.

I prefer to plan my day/week in advance for myself, family, friends, students, video shoots, and coaching clients.  My clothing changes based on the occasion – as a piano teacher I wear comfortable wear, as a coach I wear a business suit and when I perform music videos I wear formal dresses.

I love being a mom to my Son Ruveer and practicing the Montessori parenting style where kids are allowed to develop the skills and practice them at their own pace, uninterrupted. I love giving back to the world, and that’s only possible if I am able to take care of myself. I start my day with chanting, meditation, reading, exercising, and writing in my gratitude journal. I switch off my devices one hour prior to going off to sleep, reflect on my day, read affirmations, and plan for the next day. I am grateful to my family and the universe for everything I have today! I would like to sum up by quoting Tony Robbins:

Breakthroughs aren’t reserved for the brightest or strongest, they’re reserved for those who dare to dream of a different way “
