Three mobile snatching incidents in a month! And all on the main connecting roads of South City 1. Next to Vita Dairy, opposite F block onthe main Patio road, and the Gurudwara road!
Though FIRs have been registered, police say it is very difficult to catch these miscreants, as they dispose of the phones immediately as well as disable them. According to Mr Rohtas Singh, Asst SHO- Sector 41 Police Station, their surveillance and crime units are working on these cases, and hopefully will make a breakthrough soon.
These are truly shocking incidents and speak volumes of the rapidly deteriorating law and order situation in our colony. Besides asking for more beat constables and greater vigilance of the police (many of whom are now on VIP duties with the coming elections), what can we as residents do?
First and foremost is of course to avoid using mobiles or carrying them in your hand whilst walking.
Secondly, as we do not have walking tracks, it would be better to walk against incoming traffic, so at least we can keep an eye on what’s coming towards us.
However, the single most important thing is to try and make our colony a more safe, secure and clean place. The only way this can happen is if we stop thinking of narrow considerations such as ‘my house is secure because I have a security guard’, ‘ we have secured our lane’ or even ‘we have secured our block’.
Let’s go beyond this and consider our colony as one unit, and work towards installing gates and guards, organising garbage issues etc. As this can only happen with funds this is a strong appeal to all residents to come together and pay a monthly maintenance charge to SCRWA.
The need of the hour is gates/guards and cameras.
