Several social welfare organizations are in operation in Delhi for the poor and needy. One such organization is “Roti Bank” who collects cooked and dry rations and distributes them amongst the poor and downtrodden to alleviate their hunger. The organization came into existence in 2015 and has grown over the period with over seventy branches spread all over Delhi. Anita Sinha, a resident of Vasant Vihar, is an active member of this organization and runs one of the branches of “Roti Bank” single handedly from her residence at B-59 C, Paschimi Marg, Vasant Vihar.
“We collect either cooked food like Roti with dry subji or fruits, biscuits, namkeen,” says Anita. “We also collect dry rations like rice, dal, sugar and Atta and items of toiletry such as soap, toothbrush, tooth paste etc.,” she adds.
“Before covid, several residents contributed generously but post covid people’s contribution has decreased. Several items I am contributing from my own self.”
The items are distributed in Besties, leprosy center and to the people residing under the flyovers where there is large concentration of people in need of these essential items for their survival.
The collection center is open for collection of items only on Saturday from 9 am to 1.30 pm.
Anita is hopeful that many more people will come forward to support her noble cause.
