This year April has been fairly pleasant due to the kindness of rain God. The mornings are loaded with fresh and pleasant breeze giving good feeling to enjoy mother nature, new leaves on trees and “Koel kook kook” is sounding along with various other birds, some of them could be the migrated ones.
6 or 6.30 in the morning, vendors of morning essentials such as milk, bread, eggs, and pooja utility items, distributors and maid servants are seen rushing to their work.
The health-conscious morning walkers or gym enthusiasts are also wishing Ram Ram ji, Radhey Radhey, Good morning etc to passersby and friends. It is all serene and peaceful.
Suddenly, a little fancy, a little hefty, in modern outfit with an expensive dog with golden chain and her uniformed servant entered a nearby park, that had a sign board that read ‘Dogs Not Allowed’. The sign was ignored by the master, the servant and the dog. They made entry in the park to prove their disobedience to the local rule made by the residents. It is common in India that dogs are allowed to enter anywhere.
Another lady asked this hefty lady to please get her dog out but she just ignored her request and bypassed her. A little further two young boys jumped to save themselves out of dog’s limit that annoyed the lady and the servant. She again could not understand others annoyance. Two elderly persons chatting with each other called the servant and asked him to take the dog away, he gave a signal to her but it was again ignored. But made a comment “…. uncle barking dogs seldom bite…”, so don’t fear.
There are four five stray dogs who patronise this park and they keep moving here and there, everyone knows them. These stray dogs don’t allow any pet to enter their territory and have become local so they became vocal, and a Dog War was announced. These stray dogs created a havoc, as their other friends also arrived in no time.
On one side of the park are private housing type buildings and along this park there is a tea stall and some dogs reside there in a cluster, they all started barking from their roof tops and became restless to reach the park and join their friends.
Two three dogs are familiar with morning walkers because they get some ration supply from them but today these dogs were furious and jumped here and there and finally got the opportunity to grab the new dog’s face and wounded him badly. Now the lady in command took the stick from the servant to keep the dogs away but of no avail and by passers watched and half-heartedly tried to help. In the meantime, she was tried to pick up a stone to throw at them but a smart dog from behind bit her ankle and blood oozed out and her pant tore. The lady started weeping and shouting, abusing the administration and the police, she did not spare even the morning walkers and called them names without any consideration for their age.
She was horrified and so was her servant and they started shouting at full volume and made a phone call to her husband to reach the park. The walkers then tried to help her to their best. However they said, “……the uncle …..barking dogs seldom bite is a phrase that I know and you know but dogs don’t, so keep all dogs away.”
If, you are scared of Dogs, it is good, being over confident should not be applied. The administration, police, courts or any other agency will help but only later after the damage has been done. Safety is the best recourse.
