End of An Era: Closure of Club 65+ By AIW, A Beacon For Senior Companionship

All Is Well (AIW), a community group formed in November 2018, was initiated to provide companionship and support to seniors in DLF Phase 2, responding to a pressing need for enhanced senior safety and social interaction. Over the years, the group flourished as Club 65, hosting numerous activities and events to enrich the lives of its senior members.

AIW and Club 65+ were created together for those who don’t know. All Is Well (AIW) was for internal discussions, whereas Club 65+ was for volunteers and senior citizens.

The initiative thrived on the collective effort of dedicated volunteers, predominantly women and a few men, who worked tirelessly to create a positive environment for older people. These efforts included organising medical camps, fitness sessions, social gatherings, and emergency assistance during the COVID-19 lockdown, all without a membership fee.

However, all the good things must come to an end. The dissolution of All Is Well (AIW) can be traced back to the unique composition and dynamics within the group. Primarily, the volunteer team consisted of well-educated women, many of whom balanced their contributions to AIW with other significant responsibilities. These included managing or assisting in family businesses or fulfilling the demands of a full-time job.

The diverse commitments of these dedicated volunteers played a critical role in the group’s ability to function.  A situation arose, due to a difference in priorities among volunteers, causing tensions within the group dedicated to serving the elderly. The desire for recognition clashed with the collective spirit, leading to a breakdown in morale and cohesion. With dwindling interest and a shortage of volunteers,  some had quit. The group found itself unable to sustain its activities.

Despite efforts, the lack of engagement led to the difficult decision to close the group. It is the undying spirit of these volunteers who believe in ‘Sewa Parmo Dharma’ they are always ready to serve the esteemed seniors with or without a group.
