Baisakhi at Wellington

Lohri and Baisakhi are two occasions when farmers become joyous and triumphant. This is the time when their hard work bears fruit. At Lohri, rice, sugarcane, groundnut, sesame, and some other crops come home from the fields, and the same way, during Baisakhi, wheat, chickpeas, potato, mustard, and some other crops are already there, so this is a celebration and Thanksgiving time for them.

As wheat is Punjab and Haryana’s main crop, Baisakhi is celebrated here with pomp and show. It was celebrated in Wellington, also on 21stApril. It started with offering thanks to God with ‘Jap Ji Saheb Path’ at 11:30 am, followed by bhajan and kirtan, which continued till 1:30 pm, and at last, Langar for about 400 residents and workers.
