AIKGA Celebrates its Annual Mela

March 2nd & 3rd 2024 saw gardening enthusiasts thronging Gulmohar Park club lawns. All the units from Delhi NCR took part in this annual flower, fruit and vegetable show.

Unit 39 members participated in a big number and set up a unit participation on landscape designing and named it, “Sensory Food Forest”. Over 25 members volunteered to help in setting up the stall, giving duty and plants for the stall, and getting their gardeners to lift and bring plants and gardening material to the mela. Rain on the previous day did not dampen the spirits, instead, the sprinkler by nature brought freshness to the ground and plants.

The unit stall invited all accolades and became a selfie point. It was declared a winner along with other stalls as the theme was unique for unit 39. A Prize for Excellence was given to all the four participating units. Seven members won prizes in various categories under individual participation, The prize winners were Shalu Jindal, Prem Dugar, Mridula Gopal, Meenu Goel, Alka Kanwar, Rita Oberoi and Meenakshi Gupta.

Talks and recipes were shared on Millets, as this was the main area of discussion, and Millets are the marvel grain of the future.

On March 15th, Unit 39 kept its monthly meeting where they felicitated the winners and volunteers along with the gardeners (malis)

Unit 42 too participated under various categories in the annual mela. Since the unit is new, they did not participate in the theme stall but did win prizes under individual categories. The prize winners are Sujata Jain (7 prizes), Anita Wagh, Anita Tahlan, Jasbir Kaur, and Reena Gupta.

On 22 March, the unit met to felicitate the winners. A talk was held by senior member Pemila Puri on growing saplings from seeds. Convenor Anita Wagh gave a demonstration on vegetable carving. She has won many prizes for her skill at carving and presented the skill on National Television too.

April is when the membership is renewed, and the unit fee is paid by everyone. All units are sending reminders for the same.
