It was a very thoughtful idea of the Noida Authority to establish a washroom facility near Trifla Park in Sector-61. In fact, it is a boon for the residents of the sector visiting this park, as well as for passersby who can avail themselves of such convenience services. However, it is a matter of grave concern that the maintenance of these washrooms has taken a back seat and is being totally ignored. The condition of these toilets is deteriorating day by day and going from bad to worse.
The doors and louvers of these washrooms are broken and always remain open, giving an ugly look in the backdrop of the fascinating greenery of Trifla Park. Under such circumstances, the possibility of insects and reptiles entering the washrooms during the prevailing rainy season cannot be ruled out, which is unsafe for visitors. These washrooms are so stinking that one cannot dare to enter unless it is a real emergency. Even passersby catch the bad odour while passing through this route. The stinking smell is more pronounced due to the humid and monsoon weather conditions.
Adding to further woes, there are mostly continual water leakages in the pipes, joints, taps, and even in the overhead water tanks. On top of this scenario, these leakages continue for days and weeks without being attended to, leading to the wastage of a lot of water resources. This speaks of the hollowness of our slogan ‘Save every drop of precious water’. What is the use of having such a facility if it cannot be properly availed by the end users?
It is high time that the concerned authorities realize the gravity of the situation and awaken from their deep slumber on this issue of maintenance negligence. They must own the responsibility of maintaining these washrooms. Besides the repair of doors, all leakages need to be fixed and monitored on a regular basis. Deodorants should also be used frequently to counter the stinking odour. The sooner this is done, the better, before these washrooms turn into antiques.
