Water Scarcity Grips DLF-1

Water scarcity is common every year in the summer, but the situation has been too grim this year. Afterall, the mercury having risen above 50 degrees this year the heat has been unprecedented too. The whole of May’24 all the community WhatsApp groups were full of water scarcity complaints and demands for the water tankers. Being the LS election voting time, the disgruntled residents were even propagating pressing NOTA.

Rama Rani Rathi  led a protest march of many aggrieved residents carrying placards to the DLF office at Arjun Marg, DLF-1 on 21st May’24. After the demonstration, DLF assured of trying to resolve the issue in coordination with GMDA who clarified that despite them getting adequate raw water inflows they are unable to run the treatment plant optimally due to frequent power cuts by DHBVN and hence the erratic curtailed water supplies to the residential areas.

Also, DLF authorities facilitated an open house with GMDA and MCG officials and the agitated residents of DLF 1,2, and 3 on 22nd May’24 at the K block community center, DLF 2. Unfortunately, the session yielded futile results citing the similar reason of power cuts.

In fact, the prime reason for the ever-worsening water problem is also due to the permission granted a few years back for stilt plus four storeys in a colony planned originally for two and a half storeys.

The infrastructure has got terribly overloaded. In the A Block Extn. PRWS took the matter in its right earnest and helped the residents by facilitating water tankers from DLF. Even at a time of extreme scarcity of water, it was seen by a few washing cars and driveways with running hoses. PRWS brought it to the attention of MCG who deputed their team for inspection and issuing challans.
