Do you know we have a Ministry of AYUSH in the Government of India? AYUSH is derived from the Sanskrit phrase “ayusmanbhava” meaning long life. This phrase is commonly used as a blessing for a healthy long life. In the present scenario, the term AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Naturopathy, Siddha, Sowa Rigpa, Homoeopathy etc.) represents a “traditional and Non – conventional system of health care and healing. Due to its importance, the system under AYUSH is globally honoured as part of religion far beyond science.
On the 9th Nove 2014, the Ministry of Ayush was formed by the Government of India with a vision of reviving the profound knowledge of traditional Indian systems of medicine and ensuring the optimal development and propagation of the Ayush systems of healthcare.
Fundamentally AYUSH provides an integrative healthcare modality for complete physical, mental, social, and spiritual health. One of the Salient Objectives of the Ministry of Ayush is – ‘To draw up schemes for cultivating, promoting, and regenerating medicinal plants that are used in these systems’.
The herbal garden at Malibu primarily tended to by V.K.Khanna is an extension of the objective of the Ministry of AYUSH and achieves the same. In the last edition, we mentioned five of the 56 medicinal plants growing in the Aushadhi-van (Herbal-garden) at Central Park.
With the aim of creating awareness about the vast benefits of these plants, information of some more plants is being shared in this column.
Aushadhi Park is open for all Residents and is mainly for the purpose of awareness. Ayurveda believes that food (plant) is the cause and cure of all diseases but each plant has different functions for each of its parts like root, leaves, stem etc., so a proper consultation by a qualified Ayurveda doctor is advised.
