Diwali is a festival of joy, light and togetherness. We spend so much time and money buying clothes, artefacts, and gifts for our friends and relatives.
Sometimes just after using it once, we throw it. But many can’t afford to buy even ordinary new clothes for their children. If all of us plan to give one set of clothes to someone who needs them, then nobody will be deprived of that festive joy.
Wellingtonites are very generous this way. They gave money, sweets and clothes to workers. Besides that, WECA kept donation boxes in each lobby so that residents could contribute money, which would be distributed equally amongst the 90-strength staff of Wellington. Even the car cleaners who are not a part of Wellington staff were not deprived. They were also gifted money, sweets and clothes.
Wellington was full of light before Karva Chauth, and it peaked on Diwali day. This time, WECA used only golden yellow small lights that accentuated the warmth and the look.
The Mela
As soon as Durga Pooja is over, everybody waits for the Diwali Mela because it is a good time for enjoyment, togetherness, shopping for Diwali and sampling some lip-smacking food. Not restricting the fun to their condominium mela, the residents also visit other societies during the Diwali Mela.
At Wellington, the Diwali mela was held on 3rd November. This time, the entire Wellington was lit with golden lights since 29th October, just before Karva Chauth, giving a festive look. The entrance gate of Mela was full of traditional Diyas and rangoli and attracted people. About 50 Diwali-themed stalls offered traditional diyas, candles, rangoli materials, dresses, jewellery, home decor, etc. Vegetarian and non-vegetarian 30 stalls satisfy the taste buds of foodies. The Mela started at 5 pm and continued till 10.30 pm. Tambola also attracted Tambola lovers. When parents were busy shopping, children entered the kid’s zone and enjoyed various games there.
