Stephen King once said that books are the Uniquely Portable magic and nothing could be truer. Books are a world which lets you breathe a thousand lives, lets you hear a million stories, lets you meet hundreds of characters and lets you dream infinitely. The world of books is the safest haven for avid readers. This world is woven with the threads of various tastes, genres, writing styles, languages, cultures etc. However what binds it all together is the love for books and reading in general. This was precisely how the Book Read Club started in Vasant Vihar, to share this passion and hobby with fellow – Vvites.
The idea was to get together and discuss the books we read. The book read meetings are hosted by a member either at their home or a place of their choice. The book for the month is chosen by the host from amongst the suggestions that are put forth by members. The members are expected to read the book before the next meet and then give their critically analytical opinions on the read. It is absolutely enlightening and enthralling to listen to the same story but with absolutely different perspectives and analysis. It lets us understand the beautiful thoughts of the human mind and how the same situation (book in this case) is perceived differently by different people.
The book read has been going strong for 6 years now and over the years countless books have been read. It is now being recognised as a savvy book read of intellectual women in Delhi circles which is what has prompted several authors to come and meet the members and talk about their writing and perspectives.
Just like other clubs of VV, the book read not only brings people together who love to books but has also helped build strong bonds and friendships which go beyond this one common interest. A beautiful amalgam of beautiful people with thought provoking insights is what makes this club truly special in nature.
