DLF-1’s Samadhan Hub

Did you know that even toffee wrappers can be recycled? They certainly can if they reach a place like Samadhan Hub located near Khushboo Chowk on the Gurgaon Faridabad road. It is a collection point for things regarded as waste and is run by an NGO ‘ I am Gurgaon.’ These include plastic, paper, clothes, e-waste etc. There are separate labelled bins at the location, making it convenient for visitors to deposit their stuff in the designated areas. To further clarify what should go where each bin has pictures on it to specify the content.

Chips pouches, electronic stuff, you name it, they have a bin for it. Medicines, both expired and non-expired can also be donated here.

GOONJ, another NGO has their collection point here, mostly collecting clothes. They are then distributed where they are required.

Besides giving a new lease of life to stuff which would add to the mountains of waste material abounding in the Delhi NCR region, it also brings into focus the amount of waste we generate.

It is open from 8 to 5 and has a staff of eight people. Besides cleaning the premises, they maintain a record of all donations in a register after weighing them. On average, the footfall is between 40 and 130 daily, the number increasing on weekends.

A sample of what can be made from waste plastic is displayed here in the form of a table and glasses for drinking water. Floor tiles made from waste are also displayed here for reference purposes.
