Books for ALL (BFA), an NGO working for the last 13 years with the mission of books, education and, now, jobs for all recently organised a book exchange/donation drive in Eldeco Utopia, a residential society in Sector 93A of Noida, under the able leadership of a long-time volunteer, Lata Agarwal a resident of Utopia.
The main objective of this initiative was to collect or exchange old/used story books for students of Classes 5 and below and curriculum and reference books for students of Classes 6 and above. This one-of-a-kind initiative saw the participation of more than 60 families who all came together on 18 March and exchanged/donated stationary items and curriculum and reference books under CBSE & ICSE board.
The highlight of the initiative was that they were able to collect good and resourceful books, which are not even available in the market now. The initiative not only helped their sponsored students to get their curriculum/reference books free of cost, but also encouraged the children of the residents to re-use and re-cycle. Apart from them, children of house helps, drivers and laundry people also benefitted from this as the initiative was open for all. Completely worn-out books collected were sold for recycling and the money generated from there was used to buy new registers for the sponsored students.
The book donation/exchange drive was applauded by all and soon BFA is planning to do a similar drive, on demand, for the students belonging to UP board as well. BFA requests the residents to spread the word around so that many more children benefit from this drive.
