There was a time when parents taught their children to behave properly and respect the elderly but today’s pressing time perhaps does not give enough opportunity to both parties to give and take from each other and the environment enough. Aristotle said,” Good habits formed in youth make all the difference.”
Youngsters do not carry the same sentiment when they come out of their native towns nowadays feeling total freedom that no one will recognize them in the big cities and the financial independence gives them the courage to show the boorish behaviour they conduct themselves with, in the crowd.
Recently I heard an elderly neighbour complaining that in sixty yards houses, near Peach Tree, the girls residing on the third floor, tend to throw empty beer bottles in the street below, regardless of any passers-by or children playing downstairs! What kind of behaviour is this, what do they teach in schools, where have they come from, are the usual questions that come to our minds, but no respite.
In Malls, Metro Stations, and on peaceful avenues, the same story gets repeated! We cannot blame one particular gender but all are alike, what has the world come to?
From a community perspective, can the SLRWA intervene and hold the landlords accountable? Can the parents be roped in before these PG’s and flats are let out to youngsters? Besides the usual nuisance coming from these places, there is a need for some sort of order to avoid any incident from happening.
