Def col residents have been facing their worst water crisis ever. Last month all blocks suffered with no water supply for continuous 6 days. The colony was totally dependent on water tankers courtesy Delhi Jal board but there was a lacuna here that all those who don’t have underground tanks could not utilise these tankers as they did not have pumping mechanism for roof top tanks so private tankers got an opportunity to make big time money.
Like mentioned earlier many residents didn’t have a problem as they had borewells which have not been used for a long time. As a result, they restarted their borewells spending a huge amount of money.
The cause for this scarcity as informed by the authorities was depletion of water level in the Yamuna, which went down upto 671 ft to 674 ft and because of high ammonia content only 40% of water could be treated at Wazirabad plant (from where Defence Colony gets its water).
Unfortunately, it’s not only Defence Colony but also the adjacent colonies like South Extension been affected.
The support of authorities specially Anita Sandeep Baisoya has been great. We should also be grateful to JE DJB Rahul Yadav who made sure of availability of water tankers even at odd hours.
Lastly would request residents to use water cautiously because imagine this is just the beginning of the summer season.
