Work on the Power Transmission Line

Last month Sectors 50 experienced long power outages which caused hardships and disgust that made people wonder why so long power cuts. But there was planned shut downs on 2 days, 15 and 16 May, by Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd (UPPCL), with prior information to the residents. This was for long-term benefits to the consumers. A couple of days inconvenience will result in a longer continuity of power in peak summer when the temperatures go very high.

Due to rapid growth of Noida, the power requirements are also increasing at a higher rate. The old power transmission lines are now overloaded and in hot weather there are frequent trippings. The UPPCL planned to replace the existing conductor with higher size so that in peak summer the sectors don’t face trippings.

While the consumers faced some hardships for a couple of days, the workers of UPPCL were working hard high up on the transmission tower in the intense heat, to replace the conductor (the picture shows the workers on tower, the line running along the irrigation canal that runs between Blocks D/E and F of Sector 50). The work was done on 220 KV (one kV is 1000 Volts) transmission line which carries bulk power to Noida and then the power is distributed to the entire city through a network of 33kV and 11 kV lines and appropriate transformers.

We residents should appreciate the action taken by UPPCL well in time since these are the months of rise in temperatures and thereby increase in electricity consumption.
