Last month, what were 105 boys and girls, all aged below 10 years, playing inside Prateek Wisteria campus? They had assembled from 4 next door societies; Gaur Sportswood, Ajnara Heritage, Supertech Capetown and Prateek Laurel; disowned their home comfort to face an intense battle. They were competing in the 1st Inter Society Basketball Tournament, organized by a sports academy.
In the initial round robin stage, 5 teams played 4 matches to filter 4 semi-finalists, sequenced by grand finale. In the boys’ category, Wisterians were the winners and Sportswood were the runner-up. The girls’ result was just the reverse, with Sportswood lifting the trophy and Wisterians runner-up.
The three days of competition saw reasonably high standard of matches; with moments of anxiety, shouting, injury, frustration, joy, tears; all adding to the flavour and excitement for the spectators. The enthusiasm shown was magnetic. Parents from 4 societies came as guest, but left as our friends.
Every event has to end; this was no exception. But it has left us with craving to have many more such tournaments.
