Like everyday, it’s a routine now that builders get illegal permissions by paying the forest officials and cut down the trees outside the plot of land being constructed.
These permissions are being given without even any senior official from MCD or forest department visiting to evaluate the health of the tree and whether the reason being cited for its cutting is as per law. Today’s tree outside A-1/149, Safdarjung enclave, was cut in the name of a dangerous tree but how was it dangerous no one knows. I personally visited the site and saw the tree in pink of health being hacked indiscriminately.
While pruning permissions take months, tree cutting is a matter of a day or two. It is shocking to also notice that the permission has no mention of any deposit being taken by MCD, compensatory afforestation of 10:1 and where that will be carried out. Delhi government also has appointed transplantation agencies for transplanting trees. Then why was this tree not transplanted and builder charged for the same?
The question arises, who does our AAP elected representatives blame now? With legislative assembly and MCD both with the same party, can we really expect these permissions being made public before the tree is cut? Can we expect the health of tree/its location to be monitored before it is declared dangerous or dead.
Demanding an explanation on how come no elected representative is informed before the deputy conservator of forest and MCD official coalesce to grant fast tracked permissions?
Will action be taken against the forest officials and MCD officers? The builder details are mentioned in his card attached and permission copy is attached too along with the photos of the tree.
EXPLANATION AWAITED.
