Where’s My Plant?

by Shobhit Jain (D-159; 9871333844)

Our sector has often been targeted by different kinds of thieves such as car thieves, house burglars, chain snatchers, even cycle thieves, but lately our sector is under attack from plant thieves. Yes you read it right “plant thieves”. Residents are nowadays appalled to find their potted plants or even plants planted in the garden outside their houses which they nurtured with care missing or uprooted with utmost brutality.

It all started with people plucking flowers from residents’ gardens, and then it went on to stems for re-plantation but  now the thieves have gone to an all new level by targeting full grown plants. The most popular plants that are being targeted are flowering plants like roses, marigold and hibiscus, medicinal plants like tulsi, aloe Vera and curry leaf. Also at the top of these thieves’ list are ornamental plants like bonsais. All this is very sad as these plants were bought by the residents after paying a hefty price or were the result of months or even years of care and grooming. Personally I have been a victim of garden theft many times as plants like curry leaf and blooming marigolds were stolen from outside my house. People I know staying in different blocks of our sector also share my concern.

Now the question is who steals these plants. Well maybe it’s someone who wants to have nice plants in his house but doesn’t want to do the hard-work involved in sowing and raising them or as in my case once a gardener and the other time it was a plant seller ,both of which I came to know after seeing my CCTV recording. Now we can only protect our plants by ensuring we do not place our costly or beloved plants outside and being watchful.
