Where Have the Playgrounds Gone?

As DLF Phase 1 continues to develop, a critical issue is emerging: children are losing access to outdoor spaces for play. Despite the area’s rapid expansion, the lack of dedicated playgrounds has become a pressing concern for families.

While a handful of parks exist, they are either occupied by parked cars or deemed off-limits for sports like cricket and football due to complaints from nearby residents. Noise pollution and potential disturbances are often cited as reasons, leaving children with few options for physical activity.

The Resident Welfare Association (RWA) has been mediating between residents and families, attempting to resolve disputes and allow children access to parks. However, without concrete regulations and proper urban planning, such conflicts are unlikely to end.

A sustainable solution lies in mandating dedicated recreational areas in residential developments and establishing clear guidelines for the use of public spaces. After all, our kids need to play.
