The children are the future of a nation but how much are we investing in the future as a society? The children- at least those who are well off, are nurtured and given the best possible opportunities by their parents. But as a society, are we doing enough? The best thing we can do for the children is to give them a happy childhood – so that they become balanced and responsible citizens tomorrow. But unfortunately we, as a society fail to do so. The children are neither potential vote banks nor have groups to make their voices heard.
It is easy to blame the younger generation for their addiction to gadgets. But look at what we are doing to them. Children these days have no place to play in their immediate neighbourhood. Most parks are ‘possessed ’by the older generation who become the self-appointed caretakers of these public parks and don’t let the children play.
Another factor is the terror of street dogs. The aggressive dogs in lanes and parks not only terrorize, but they also bite the children cycling or playing. An eleven-year-old was bitten by a dog in G Block. But whenever this issue is raised, the dog lovers’ group becomes active to defend the dogs. Unfortunately, there is no one other than the parents of the affected child to argue with. It’s a good thing to care for animals so that no injustice is done to them. But then an amicable solution should be worked out. Imagine the trauma a child has to suffer if they have been through this horrible experience. A true animal lover will have a compassionate heart to understand the pain of a child too.
Dog lovers can come forward to offer a solution. The dogs can be neutered and vaccinated. This also makes them docile and they are not aggressive.
