When Bad News Is Good News

by Anita Singh (9810027974)

It was not long ago that A block Sector 31, was considered an extension of Nithari. Bad elements roamed the roads and a walk through the main arterial streets felt like a visit to rural India. The parks were full of would be Romeos, with or without their Juliets. The residents returned to the safety of their homes, well before nightfall, and the idea of a morning or evening walk meant a long preparatory trudge to the park in Sector 36.

Snobbish considerations apart, it was the safety factor that made A Block a less preferred destination for the home buyer or tenant. Petty thefts, burglaries and chain snatching were a regular affair. The notoriety of the Nithari Kaand rubbed off on the Sector, and people generally perceived it as unsafe, if not positively dangerous.

So what’s the good Bad News? Well. Just five days ago, on 2 December, pair of serial thieves was reported. Apparently 2 kids have been robbing a new entrant to the Sector of his newspapers! Caught on CCTV, the young thugs were identified and given What Bloody For. Breaking News, indeed! Yesterday, a couple of school boys were caught stealing!

You guessed it. Flowers from a neighbourhood garden!! Valentines Day being a couple of months away, it is possible that these juveniles had failed to do their botany homework, and decided to tap local produce to escape their teachers’ wrath. Of course, love has no age or calendar, so the original motive might still hold water. As we go to press, exhaustive interrogations are being conducted by the President of the RWA; an erstwhile member of RAW and expert in remote Sensing and Satelite Communication.

Needless to say, Police has been advised of the crying need to step up patrolling and arrest of miscreants.
