Wheels & Waves – Across Western Ghats

The Syal family from M block DLF-2 set out on their Wheels & Waves journey across the Indian Coastline on November 22, 2024, hoping to create memories that would last a lifetime. Over 58 days, they travelled 11,293 km, exploring 15 states and 38 cities. This was not just a road trip; it was an experience of discovery, connection, and sheer wonder.

Their adventure continued to the Western Ghats after Kanyakumari, where they stood last month at the southernmost tip of India, taking in the beauty of the Vivekananda Rock Memorial and the Thiruvalluvar Statue. The coastal roads that followed offered an ecstatic mix of India’s vibrant culture and the stunning views at each place they passed.

In Kerala, they floated along the peaceful backwaters of Alleppey on a houseboat, savouring local delicacies. Kannur gave them a unique thrill when they drove their vehicle onto Muzhappilangad Beach, letting the ocean breeze and golden sands welcome them.

Karnataka brought them to Mangalore’s serene beaches and ancient temples, while Goa offered a mix of nature and relaxation, from the powerful Dudhsagar Falls to the tranquil shores of Palolem and Agonda. Maharashtra was all about history and nostalgia: they visited the iconic Ratnagiri Fort, strolled along Ganpatipule Beach, and celebrated the New Year in Mumbai, a city they once called home.

One of the most unforgettable moments was the RORO ferry ride from Hazira port to Ghogha in Gujarat. Cruising over the Arabian Sea, they soaked in a breathtaking sunset, making the journey as magical as the destination. The picturesque island of Diu impressed them with its beaches and INS Khukri Memorial, where they paid tribute to the brave soldiers.

From there, the Gir Forest National Park left them awestruck with sightings of Asiatic lions and leopards. The spiritual energy of Dwarkadeesh, Somnath, and Nageshwar temples blessed them with soulful solace, while Jamnagar’s Marine Biological Park revealed fascinating marine life.

The pinnacle of heavenly wonder came in the Rann of Kutch. Staying in a tent city at Dholavira under the full moon, they were flabbergasted by the White Rann’s surreal beauty.

Rajasthan added a dash of excitement with camel safaris, jeep rides, and the historic Longewala Fort and Tanot Mata Temple. In Jaisalmer, the vibrant markets, narrow alleys, and ornate havelis added to the historical charm of Sonar Quila, the majestic Jaisalmer Fort. The golden sands of Gadisar Lake seemed straight out of a fairy tale. Jodhpur offered the majestic Mehrangarh Fort and Umaid Bhawan Palace, while Jaipur, their final destination, with its vibrant energy, was the perfect final note to their grand symphony of travel.

As they reached back home on Jan 19, the Syals reflected on the journey with immense gratitude. This wasn’t just about places visited or kilometers clocked; it was about their shared laughter, unexpected detours, and the overwhelming beauty of India. A journey of this kind doesn’t just leave memories; it leaves you changed, with a heart full of stories waiting to be told.
