There are two very important resources that we desperately need in summers. Water and electricity! And very unfortunately we continue wasting both. Every year when summer arrives, India faces a common problem of water shortage and electricity failures making our life stressful and filled with anger . Similarly low pressure and bad quality (muddy)water supply is something that the residents are facing .While half of the nation is struggling with a severe shortage of water and electricity , some of us continue to shamelessly waste it. People use running water via rubber pipes to wash and clean courtyards, garages, porticos, and cars. Every single day, at some houses, even twice a day, the driveways are washed and roads are sprinkled with water. This not only wastes water but also makes the roads muddy. Last month, a concerned resident spotted a few maids and drivers washing cars and porticos, wasting precious resources. Following the incident, the concerned residents have requested Samvada to include a small editorial or short stories periodically on water etiquette (i.e., how to make optimum use of water, dos and don’ts, good practices, etc). The fact is that we live in a water-stressed region of the world. But with this diminishing resource, we should change our water-using/wasting pattern. We can use water prudently. The residents believe that most of us will definitely be concerned. It’s just that we need a little discussion going on this topic to keep reminding people. “Could Samvada take the lead?” is the question they put up. As a responsible neighborhood connect platform, we highlight issues of concern from time to time. The above-mentioned trust of a resident to get across to their fellow residents through our platform is indeed a matter for us to take this topic further with all earnestness. In this hour of water crisis, when severe water shortages exist in many areas of the country and the decreasing water table in our area is a reality, we should change our water habits. Cars should not be washed but wiped clean; porches, driveways, and entry ramps of the houses should not be washed but wiped wet after mopping with water; plants should not be watered by running water but by using a bucket and mug. Water used for cleaning vegetables in the kitchen should be used for watering plants. Once we get into the habit of water conservation, it will bring great satisfaction.
The residents are also reeling under frequent, erratic, long power outages. Let’s take summer issues into our hands and become our saviours instead of blaming our governments!
The government of India has also taken the initiative to deploy solar panels in residential areas so that we can harness solar energy to meet our electricity demands. To spread the awareness RWA sector 39 had arranged a session for solar panels and electricity generation on June 2 in RWA office C block market from 10:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.Many residents attended the session and clarified their douabouts on installation , benefits and subsidies provided by the government.
