WeCare – Building Bonds, Nurturing Empathy

By now, we believe you would have an idea of what the WeCare initiative is about. Just to remind, we envisage it as an intergenerational link and ini tiative to nurture empathy in the younger generation and forge connections between them, and the elderly, in and around Noida, beginning with Lotus Boulevard.

The plan of action, as we foresee it, involves steps whereby we first form a Core Group to take this initiative ahead. The Group will recruit and train young volunteers (14- 35-year-olds) to assist and engage with elderly residents.

The Core Group will then establish a schedule of regular visits and activities tailored to the needs and interests of the elderly. We will ensure that the young volunteers have been introduced to the family members (if desired by them).

The Core Group will then ensure that the young volunteers are aware of the elderly residents’ medical ailments and are in touch with their healthcare provider and children, if the latter live away from the parents.

The Core Group will ensure (preferably physically and sometimes telephonically) that the daily basics such as provisions, security, monthly bills, food intake, housekeeping facilities etc of the elderly are in place.

The Core Group will be responsible for the recruitment, induction and training of the young volunteers. We will also tie up with Doctors-on-Call. Further, the Group will plan some fun activities for the senior members.

To begin the implementation, we first need to plan and prepare. As the very first step, we are looking for volunteers for the Core Group who will create a database of the elderly residents interested in this project.

If you would like to devote at least an hour per week as a Core Group member, please reach out to us by filling this Google Form – https://forms.gle/hPV4f9vmvZGE2cQ36 by Saturday, 31 August. We will start WeCare as soon as we get five – seven volunteers.
