My friend who was a working woman and had taken a break to look after her young kids, and her in laws, decided to get back to a full-time job. After a long search she found a smart maid, presentable and mildly educated one. All looked rosy and she was delighted with her luck.
After 3 months Kamla, the maid asked bibiji if she could buy her some stylish dresses like her’s and she would pay. My friend was a bit flustered but she went and got her some reasonably priced clothes, which were accepted with a grumpy face!!!! It was below her standards.
Next Kamla wanted to buy a fancy phone which was ordered by her on her Amazon App, in her name!!!!
Finally, to bibiji’s, utter surprise and amazement Kamla audaciously said to bibiji Aap chai mat banaya karo, Sahib aur dadi dada ko merehi haath ki chai acchi lagti hai!!!
You can imagine the feeling of insult and humiliation.
My friend sent her packing next day after her mother-in-law told her Kamla was using her cosmetics, toiletries, special coffee, sandals etc and was continuously on Whats App in her absence. My own mother’s nursing attendant was painting herself with her talcum powder while she thought she was sleeping!
Quite a common scenario. It no doubt is a funny story but it brings out realities in today’s society.
Young girls and boys are more educated now and are Tech savvy. They know how to use WhatsApp, Facebook, Online shopping etc. Their aspirations are higher and they want jobs other than domestic help.
Everyone wants smart, presentable, educated girls and boys to work for them. In the present environment, this is not going to be possible. The previous generation of helpers will soon grow old and the younger generation of boys and girls will not be willing to work in homes.
We will not have servants in future. Let us face the Reality and accept that times are changing and youths are moving on. To expect them to toe your line, is not just going to be possible. Boys are no less. They compare each other’s phones, brands of Jeans, sunglasses etc and aspire to get good brands.
Can we catch up?????
