Monkey Menace-Unabated in S Block- No Action by MCD

Monkey menace is increasing day by day, with the monkey population increasing every season. Our RWA has been sending regular reminders to MCD, but it seems that the whole Govt. machinery including the Delhi Govt; LG office, forest dept & MCD are clueless & solutions are just illusive.

Deploying “langurs”, persons dressed as “langurs”, cages, Fire crackers, have all failed to deter the monkeys, which are becoming bolder & bolder & are not afraid at all.

Several reports have been published in leading newspapers; Courts have passed several judgments but the buck does not stop anywhere. No authority is willing to take responsibility & proverbial, “who bells the cat” remains.

In latest incidents in S Block, on the morning of 2 July, Sunday, monkeys created havoc in the house of Bela Gupta, S 55. Wind shield of her swift car was broken along with a few chairs, pots & “gamlas” with plastic sheets were broken at S 402, Water pipes were broken at S 129, wasting a lot of water & emptying the tanks.

An SOS was sent on the same day to the Dy Commissioner, SZ, at 10.40 am, highlighting the issue & informing her that a monkey catcher, Taslim was supposed to have been sent by the vet dept. On Saturday but no one came.

She responded at 11.10 am saying “Will Get It Done Mahesh Ji”
However, nothing has happened till Friday evening.

Mr Nagpal (S 459) was bitten by a monkey in the last week of June.

S Block, in the vicinity of a Jungle nearby (Beyond the Nalla wall) is the worst affected.

Some residents & some ardent “Bhaktas” are also responsible for this problem.

In spite of several appeals & advisories issued from time to time by RWA, people do not pay any heed & continue to feed monkeys, stray dogs & cats.

If it continues, the problems will persist & the RWA’s & various Govt. authorities will not be able to help.

Unfortunately, we are building cages around our houses & these animals are roaming free. Sad situation.!!!!!

P.S:- There is some ray of hope. Our RWA tried a novel method over the past two days. We have a powerful portable audio system. Our guards were instructed to put this in operation with a loud sound of a Lion’s roar. Happy to say that it has worked on two days. Monkeys ran away from the park but the problem remains as how to get rid of them completely. Over a period of time, they may also realize, that there is no lion nearby. Let us wait & watch.
