Or Do We Depend on Hit & Trial Methods
A few lanes, having about 200 households in our S block, faced major water supply issue from 22 July to 27 July. Residents were a harassed lot, sending reminder after reminder to DJB, booking water tankers thru private suppliers or DJB. RWA President started the chase up every day, at 6 am, after getting feedback from the residents.
DJB maintained that water supply is normal, all the five tube wells were working, still there was a pressure drop in at least three lanes. Houses located at the tail end were worst affected.
There was no respite in sight except that AE Chandan Yadav was arranging water tankers from time to time.
To detect the possible source of leakage, pits were dug out at 7-8 different places, but no success.
Finally on the intervening night of 27 July, one of SBWS guards heard a gurgling noise in the storm water drain passing near gate 2 of S Block.
When he removed a cover, he saw a huge amount of fresh water flowing out towards Hans Raj Gupta Marg, PWD drain.
Matter was reported to AE, Mr Yadav at 6 am & he deputed a team immediately to see the situation.
Finally, on 28th afternoon the source of leakage was detected near the back lane of S-29, after extensive digging.
It was plugged & the supply situation improved dramatically. Over the next two days, a pc. of broken, rusted pipe was replaced on 1st Aug.
Residents were kept informed about the developments, every day.
Since then, the water supply is absolutely normal.
Many messages appreciating the efforts of MC of SBWS were received in the groups.
However, the big question is, that if there is any scientific system of detecting such pressure drops & underground leakages or do, we still depend on gut feelings & hit and trial methods???? With advanced technologies & AI in vogue, can’t we device a system to find out the location of trouble spots.??? Think.
