The Vasant Kunj water crisis seems to be a never-ending problem and was created/started by the political-land mafia nexus and finally due to the vote bank politics.
The water crisis in Delhi, particularly in areas like Vasant Kunj, remains a pressing issue despite initiatives like the Sonia Vihar Treatment Plant, intended to alleviate these challenges. Several factors contribute to the compromise of the distribution system designed by TCS (Tata Consultancy Services) and the overall effectiveness of the water supply from the Sonia Vihar Treatment Plant. While TCS may have designed a comprehensive distribution system, any gaps in implementation or operational management can lead to inefficiencies. Issues such as improper pressure management, poor valve operations, or lack of real-time monitoring can hinder effective water distribution. Rapid urbanization and population growth can outpace the supply capabilities of treatment plants.
Water distribution in Delhi is often complicated by bureaucratic inefficiencies, political considerations, and a lack of coordination between different government agencies. This can result in delays in maintenance or upgrades to the system, affecting reliability. It’s very interesting to note that all government departments are keeping a blind eye and ensuring water, electricity, sanitation services, and pipeline gas to such houses that were/are built on the government’s RIDGE forest land. DDA is deliberately ignoring these issues under pressure , leading to hardship for the general public. This is high time for law-abiding citizens to ask for their legitimate demands through courts or public manifestos.
Vasant Kunj’s requirements from Sonia Vihar were 6.2 MGD. This demand was exclusively for sectors A, B, C, and D only as per the original plan. The special funds were allocated to build huge reservoirs in each assembly to hold at least 24 hours’ worth of water for the area in case some breach of the canal or some other technical failure happened. But it’s very unfortunate that such a farsighted vision has never been allowed to happen due to selfish and arrogant politicians. The DJB officials who were supposed to protect the rights of law-abiding citizens also let us down. This is clearly a case of vigilance inquiry and actions on this illegal activity.
In Vasant Kunj, a 3.2 MG capacity reservoir was built under the above scheme, but actually, we are only getting half of our share while the rest of the water is diverted to Mahipalpur, Chhattarpur, and other adjoining colonies. Most of Delhi’s authorized colonies are getting supplies twice or thrice a day, while Vasant Kunj is the only planned colony that is receiving only a once-a-day supply with reduced pressure. As elections are around, it’s high time to raise our demand from our candidates for our legitimate share of our water.
