Waste Program

Waste Program

In early February, the Waste Program in C block got redressal when Mr. Dalwani, the General Secretary of SLRWA sent the new rules to the concerned people, responsible for the cleanliness of the society. Mr. Dalwani stated that Sushant Lok 1 as a registered Bulk Waste Generator must comply with the Solid Waste Management Rules, mandated by MCG. A core aspect of this compliance was the segregation of solid waste at source into three categories, i.e. Wet, Dry, and Hazardous. This is a collective responsibility that demands collaboration among the RWA, residents, MCG, and the cleaning agency. To ensure seamless compliance and circumvent non-compliance penalties, the following guidelines need to be adhered to without exceptions:

Action Plan for Waste Collection Agency

1. Equip all waste collection vehicles (vans, tempos, and thelis) with compartments for handling three-way segregated waste (wet, dry, and hazardous)

2. Provide comprehensive training to all supervisors, drivers, and waste collectors on waste segregation protocols, including proper handling techniques.

3. Under no circumstances should mixed waste be collected from residents after the arrangements of segregated vehicles are arranged by 15/02/2025

4. Process wet waste at the composting plant located within the community centre compound.

5. Maintain a detailed logbook of non-compliant households and submit this data to the RWA weekly (every Friday).

6. Ensure that all recyclable materials are handed over exclusively to authorized recyclers.

Key Concern:

Feedback from the residents has highlighted significant gaps in service levels. To address this:

Timely and regular waste collection must be prioritized to eliminate waste being discarded in open spaces or vacant plots.

Reassess the adequacy of resources (vehicles and manpower) to align with the number of households serviced.
