Efficient waste management is the need of the hour. Managing waste effectively helps to not only keep the environment clean but also conserve precious resources.
In Suncity, proactive measures are taken by the SRWA to ensure proper waste disposal.
In the daily garbage collection, dry and wet waste is duly segregated as the initial step for proper disposal. Thus, residents are highly encouraged to always maintain separate bins for wet and dry waste.
Suncity has its very own slurry plant to process wet waste, through which it provides slurry to the Biogas plant near Sushant Lok. Lately, the SRWA has been taking up initiatives for the effective disposal of e-waste, puja waste, old books and clothes. Several NGOs also collaborate in this process by taking up old clothes and books given away by Suncity residents and providing them to those who may need them. Those who wish to give away their e-waste like computers, mobile phones, remotes etc, may drop them off at the SRWA office, and be assured that they will be discarded properly. Similarly, those who wish to discard puja waste items like discarded flowers, fruits, old idols and other offerings, may drop them off at a collection box near Gate No. 8 (Mandir Gate).
Suncity is one of the only townships where elaborate waste management measures like these are being implemented regularly.
Kudos to the SRWA team for the work they do, and to Mrs. Kusum Sharma for leading this initiative. Through such measures of community intervention to effectively manage waste, we can ensure that we never see the rise of another Bandhwari dump. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle is the motto we all must live by.
