Efforts are continuing to remove the encroachments as per the orders of the Hon’ble High Court. Raids were conducted by the MCD in the recent past at various places in the colony and the temporary structures were demolished. However, the encroachers have retuned and re-established themselves. There appear to be vested interests which need to be overcome. In the meantime, efforts to remove the encroachments shall continue.
In order to ensure that there are no fresh encroachments as also to control the usage of drugs, alcohol etc. in the parks, VVWA has engaged four Marshals. The initial reports on the pilot project are encouraging and VVWA is looking forward to build on this.
Waste Management is a major initiative that has been started by VVWA with the aim of converting VVWA to a zero-waste colony. Segregation is now being pursued in three blocks. VVWA is striving to extend this initiative to the remaining three blocks. A proposal for Composting Pits has been submitted to MCD, for which approval is awaited.
Security is another issue that is high on VVWA’s agenda. In the next few days or so barricading on main roads, as done earlier, is going to be undertaken once again. Traffic signs will also be put up. Simultaneously, a dialogue has been initiated with the Traffic Police to control traffic which emanates from the early morning and afternoon school chaos. VVWA hope that results will be visible in the coming few months.
Water has been a success story. The water situation continues to be smooth. However, lack of snowfall in the upper reaches of the Himalayas could cause a shortfall in water supply for which VVWA is gearing up.
