Vivah Panchami (Ram Sita Vivah)

Vivah panchami, an important festival in Hindu religion, celebrates the wedding anniversary of Lord Ram and Goddess Sita. Devotees observe rituals such as taking a holy bath, lighting a diya in front of Lord Ram, organising a grand puja ceremony, adorning idols with garlands and jewellery and offering bhog prasad. In Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh and the Mithila region of India and Nepal, the festival is celebrated with grandeur. The celebration includes Ramayan paath, sattvik food preparation and bhajan kirtan.

Vivah panchami is celebrated on the panchami tithi of Shukla Paksha in Margashirsha month. This year it fell on Sun, 17 December.

Ram Sita Vivah was celebrated from 4 to 5.30 pm in the Mahavirji Temple, GK I.

New attires for all the four idols in the Ram darbar were provided by the Khanna family of W-153, GK I. The garlands to adorn the idols were provided by a resident of N block who does not wish to disclose his name. Lord Ram’s pagri and prasad of peanut chikki, bhel puri and fresh fruits was provided by Madhu Rani’s family in N 67. Shashi Bhandari from N 144 brought halwa.

Ram Sita bhajans were sung by the ladies of Jai Mata Di group. The finale was aarti and distribution of Prasad to all attendees.
