Ram Vihar is (AWHO) Army Welfare Housing Organisa-tion and is comprised of 202 flats. These flats are mostly owned by Retired Army Officers. These officers are more or less in their silver years but nevertheless, young at heart. They are better known as VETERANS and have had long innings in the three services – Army, Navy and Air Force. They hung their uniform long back but still continue the same lifestyle. They love to mingle and interact with officers of their own age group. Henceforth this Club 30 for veterans came up.
This club came into being about 12 years back. There are around 30 members who meet every 3rd Wednesday of the month, in Ram Vihar Community Hall, at 7.30 pm. It is a 2 hour session to which we all looks forward to. This is an informal meeting session where officers interact and exchange notes with each other. They chit chat and discuss on various topics and also entertain each other.
One officer is made in charge for tying up the event and this responsibility is given in rotation. It is a cocktail party with light snacks and drinks. The expenditure is equally shared amongst all the officers attending the get- together.
Besides this monthly meeting, the club organizes get – together with spouse and single ladies also. This is at AVI ( Arun Vihar Institute) and held twice a year. Veterans entertain the ladies with Tambola (which is every ones favourite), games and a session of singing and cracking jokes. Prizes which are utility items are given to the winners and return gifts distributed to all the ladies. Lip smacking snacks and sumptuous dinner is served. Everybody is happy and satisfied with the social evening. All disperse with smiles on their faces.
