As announced by our PM, Narendra Modi, the year 2022 Shaheedi Diwas of Chhote Sahibzaade was observed on 26 December 2022. This week has been observed by the Sikh Community, every year, mourning the brutalities done on the four sons of Sahib Guru Gobind Singh Ji, who were martyred between 21 and 27 December in the year 1704 AD.
The martyrdom of the four sons of Guru Gobind Singh Ji is one of the most tragic and heartbreaking events in the history of the world. On the one hand, this incident paints a disgusting picture of human brutality; on the other hand, it reveals the peak of the fighting spirit within the Sahibzada and the spirit of Sikh indoctrination.
Gurudev’s two eldest sons, Baba Ajit Singh and Baba Jujhar Singh, were killed in the battle of Chamkaur and two younger sons, aged 6 years and 9 years, Baba Zoravar Singh and Baba Fateh Singh were killed on the orders of Suba Sirhind.
Shaheedi Diwas of Sahibzade commemorates that they sacrificed their lives for the fulfilment of a much greater cause. They refused to renounce the faith, tenets and principles as ordered by the Mughal Rulers.
The day was observed in Gurudwara Sector 136 by doing paath and singing the shabads reciting the sacrifices made by the young sahibzades. Sikh families from other sectors joined. The incidence of courage and bravery with which the young kids faced the mighty Mughals are heart-wrenching.
A quiz competition for kids was organised in the Gurdwara where winners were awarded. The idea behind the quiz is to make the young generations aware of the sacrifices made by our Gurus and follow their path of truth and righteousness.
Community langar has always been a part of Sikh Gurdwaras anywhere in the world. So langars are organised for all, to savour as soul food, with no discrimination of caste or status, everyone eats sitting together. The path of equality and sharing is embedded in their upbringing so the Sikh community is always at the forefront of sacrifice and care for the community.
