Despite intermittent rain, the celebration of International Day of Yoga by Citizens Forum, on 20 June in the Vasant Vatika, as usual, was a great event indeed.
The most unique factor was the combination of the Three most prominent Yoga Gurus of Vasant Kunj, celebrating it together. The initiative of our Councillor, Jagmohan Mehlawat brought in Dr Pooran Chand of Sivanand Yoga School International, Suresh Talwar, Blissful Yoga and Satish Dogra of the Bhartiya Yoga Sansthan on same platform, making it such a wonderful event.
Above all, the joining of the three most prominent Neurologists of AIIMS made it the rarest of the rare event. Proudly, Dr Kameshwar Prasad, ex-Chief-Neurosciences and Director-Cohort Studies (currently in Fortis Hospital-Vasant Kunj), together with the current Head of Neurology, Dr Achal Kumar Srivastava, and Prof Dr Awadh Kishor Pandit arrived despite the rain. The other celebrities – Sardar Swaran Singh, Senior Counsellor of Institute of Gurmat Studies-California and of course, our highly popular Dr Sheetal Kishanpuria of Sharp Sight Eye Hospitals added great value to our efforts. Dr Ravidev Gupta Chief of Ekal Foundation of India, regretted his absence due to heavy rain in his area.
As per the Ayush Ministry Protocol, Dr Pooran started with the Aasan Yogas, followed by the Pranayam Yoga by Suresh Talwar and the Dhayan-Meditation Yoga by Satish Dogra and last but not the least, the usual Special Eye-Care Exercises by Dr Sheetal.
We were greatly honoured by few words of Dr Kameshwar Prasad appreciating the efforts of Citizens Forum in the service of society, including holding such Annual events, trying to spread our ancient culture and traditions.
Due to shortage of time, we could not expect more than a few words from our respected guests from AIIMS, yet, we were privileged to get their support and appreciation for celebrating the Yoga Day.
And then came on stage the group of Yoga students of Dr Pooran showing their excellent talent in performing exercises, applauded by one and all repeatedly. Our Jagmohan Mehlawat distributed the special Yoga Trophies to these highly trained students.
The programme ended with vote of thanks by Saranjeet Singh, to all the Guests and the participants. He also thanked Fortis Hospital Vasant Kunj and Sharp Sight Eye Hospitals, for helping us organise the event, including distribution of refreshments, and special Jute Bags to help maintain our environment.
