Vacant plots can be quite an eyesore with the unbridled overgrowth of weeds. Unfortunately, many people use the empty plots as garbage dumps too. However, now SCRWA has initiated a pilot project to use vacant plots for growing herbs and seasonal vegetables. This will ensure that these vacant plots are maintained and the neighbouring residents can get fresh herbs and vegetables. Preferably, the plots would be fenced as a deterrent to stray cattle and dogs. The owners of B 68 consented to be a part of this pilot project. To begin with, SCRWA got the plot cleaned and then we Residents took over and planted spinach. Anita R Khanna of D 92-93 bought some ‘bhindi’ saplings for us and we planted those too. Anita also maintains a vegetable patch in the plot adjoining her house. We started with using approximately half of the plot area and we are hopeful of many green returns.
