It is found that our lanes and vacant plots lack sanitation and are dumped with garbage and construction waste. In this situation, residents lodge complaints to service providers (DLF / MCG) to clean it. DLF and MCG do clean them but find that within a day or so the garbage appears again. Service providers rightly say that it is not possible to clean all the lanes and vacant plots on an alternate-day basis.
Aawaz volunteers had a few deliberations with selected residents and found that there is no designated place to throw kitchen waste / garbage in DLF2. This results in the throwing of kitchen waste / garbage on the roadside or vacant plots daily by maidservants and domestic helpers.
Aawaz volunteers and other residents of M2 and M3 decided to provide garbage bins. Anand Kumar of M3/1 took the lead with financial support to address the issue. Later, a few more residents also joined the team. Aawaz volunteers and Anand Kumar arranged to clean the vacant plots of M2/6 and M2/7 privately about three weeks ago. Later on, four garbage bins were installed at the M2 and M3 lanes. The merits of this project were explained to more residents in the vicinity. With the cooperation of residents, now all the garbage is thrown into the bins, and the said lanes / area has been free from garbage for the last three weeks. Further, residents were asked to park their vehicles in the vacant plot to decongest the roads.
Result:
1) Plots are garbage free from the last three weeks.
2) Residents are putting garbage in the bins.
3) Cars are being parked in the vacant plot.
4) Vehicular congestion on the road is reduced.
5) Service providers see the relief.
Residents in DLF 2 who are keen to know the details and find it worthwhile to emulate it at their lanes / blocks may contact Aurobindo Verma M6/16 DLF2, Mobile No. 9971046777, email aawazvolunteersgroup@gmail.com. It will be our pleasure to replicate this model to make your lanes / blocks free from garbage in DLF2 and to make DLF2 a better place to live.
