Udyan Mela by AIKGA

All India Kitchen Garden Association held its annual Udyan Mela on 30th September and 1st October at Gulmohar Park Club lawns. The entry was free for everyone.

This Mela is held before the start of the winter season to encourage members and visitors  to grow winter fruits, vegetables and flowers at home. Only garden related needs are made available at this mela.  Chance to interact with the convenors, gardening enthusiasts and experts to gain first hand knowledge is an added attraction. Unit members are encouraged and provided stalls at a reasonable price where more than one  member can bring plants and put them on sale. The  green eco friendly mela gives the vibes of a perfect  Mela where one goes to enjoy, shop, bargain, eat,  meet friends, make new friends and take home potted beauties to provide them care and love in a new home.

The scenes at the mela were no less than a mandi. Members were heard announcing huge discounts, giving one plus one plants, throwaway deals were a steel. Nurseries and commercial stalls were also allowed to put up stalls at a regular price. They too had many  varieties and were offering plants at a good pricing. Home made goodies stole every ones heart and were yummy on the tummy.

Cow dung diyas, left over flowers from puja made into agarbattis, bee boxes to make own honey at home, tray and container garden, bonsais, home made pickles, laddoos and masalas stalls all of them were thronged with visitors and did good sales.
