This year on November 24, Tulsi Vivaha was celebrated by the senior ladies at RP2 with all rituals. Tulasi Vivaha is a Hindu festival, in which a symbolic ceremonial wedding takes place between a tulsi plant or holy basil (the personification of Lakshmi) and a shaligrama or an amla branch (the personifications of Vishnu). Tulasi Vivaha signifies the end of the monsoon, and the beginning of the wedding season in Hinduism. The ceremonial festival is performed anytime between Prabodhini Ekadashi (the eleventh or twelfth lunar day of the bright fortnight of the Hindu month of Kartika) and Kartika Purnima (the full moon of the month). All rituals were followed and the ladies danced and sang songs and bhajans. Tulsi plant was dressed up as a bride with a beautiful chunri, glass bangles and shringar. It was beautiful event to connect us to our rich and beautiful cultural heritage.
