World Environment Day is celebrated annually on 05 June. On this day, people from all over the world come together to take action and raise awareness about environmental issues. One of the most pressing issues that our planet faces today is deforestation and increased usage of plastics and kind, which has led to a loss of biodiversity, increased greenhouse gas emissions, and climate change. One way to combat this issue is through tree plantation drives, which can help to restore our planet’s green cover and mitigate the impact of deforestation.
In our society, Eldeco Utopia, we tried to acknowledge the importance of protecting the environment by organising a tree plantation drive in whatever small space we had. Our goal was to actively involve the children to plant as many trees as possible and participate in building a sustainable future. On the day of the event, about 40 children engaged themselves in the tasks such as digging holes, watering the saplings, and spreading the organic manure around the trees under the guidance of in-house gardeners and volunteers. They were also encouraged to ask questions and learn more about the trees they were planting.
Nearly 100 trees – Fox palms, Lalsa, Euphorbia, Chandani and Kusuma were planted. Ritwik and Harshita’s involvement in community work was praiseworthy, especially considering the current trend of youngsters being reluctant to leave their homes and take part in such activities. The children’s enthusiasm and excitement about the tree plantation drive was overwhelming, and their participation helped to create a sense of community and shared responsibility.
The certificates of participation were distributed at the end of the event to create a sense of pride and ownership among the volunteers towards the tree plantation drive.
The children went home knowing they had made a difference, however small, on World Environment Day.
Tree plantation is not just a one-day event. It is a long-term commitment to the environment and requires ongoing efforts to care for the trees that have been planted. I would conclude this article with a strong belief that by working together, we can make a significant impact on the planet and create a better future for generations to come – Start today to save tomorrow!
