The transformer in Lane 4, M Block caught fire before dawn on 17 Feb. Ashwin, owner of the first house next to it, took immediate action to call the Linesman and the Fire Brigade. The Linesmen reached the earliest. The fire was controlled, simmered and died down too. The Fire Brigade alert was cancelled.
But ….quite a scare. The reason was oil spillage and the presence of a fire, presumably lit by someone nearby. The transformer has been repaired. Kudos to Ashwin and the Linesmen for their alertness and actions respectively. Kudos to the SCRWA Team, especially Sagar Bhola, who assisted in early resolution.
Sagar, EC Member in charge of electrical issues, met the residents on 18 Feb morning. The overhanging tree branches, foliage and general area were cleared, even as the transformer was attended to. Sagar also tells me that they will try and get the new TATA Transformer energized next week, so that this old transformer can be permanently phased out. May or may not happen, but at least the young man is thinking along lines of alleviating the quality of DHBVN delivery and not just doing fire-fighting (pun intended).
