Personality Of The Month
Pravin Kumar Uberoi is the resident of A 613, Sushant Lok 1. In 1989, when he acquired his house plot, he noticed a vacant 3-4 acre plot in front of his house.
Despite being designated for an electricity substation, the land remained barren and eventually became a slum settlement.
In 2006, he joined forces with fellow residents to transform the land into a green space called Samvaad. They cleared the area, planted grass, and installed trees, despite initial resistance from ProFac Ltd. They secured support from the MCG, which provided plants from government nurseries.
Today, Mr Uberoi continues to maintain the park with a few committed residents. They have implemented rainwater harvesting, reduced waterlogging, and kept the park open for children and pets. Functions like Holi, Diwali etc have been celebrated and meetings have been held in this park. He has personally installed a golf practice net and provides free coaching and equipment, as coaching is his passion, and he believes in giving back to the community. Lakshay, Vriraaj, and Vriraasan are a few of the regular kids to play golf, and four children from the labour camp also join them.
Beyond golf, he has 20 years of experience in rowing. He was the National Coach for the Indian Rowing Team in three Asian Games and one Olympics, and in 1983, he was honored with India’s first Arjuna Award in rowing. Even today, he actively contributes to the development of rowing in Punjab and Delhi.
As an elected member of SLRWA, he is committed to improving security, enhancing infrastructure, and ensuring this beautifully maintained park that serves as a vital green lung for the community, providing pure, refreshing oxygen and a serene environment. It offers a perfect escape for residents to relax, exercise, and connect with nature, enhancing both physical and mental well-being.
Currently, Golf classes are conducted in the morning, 7 am onwards. Children interested can contact him at:+91 98115 03398
