GK-1 roads have become a nightmare for residents, particularly children and senior citizens. Roads are overcrowded making it difficult for pedestrians to walk even short distances. In a recent incident a senior citizen of C block walking to doctor’s clinic was run over by a speeding car causing death, the car belongs to resident of Okhla who was passing through GK-1 at high speed. The primary reason for this mess is because of GK-1 becoming thorough passage for residents of Kalka Ji, CR Park, Alaknanda apartments and other areas of South East Delhi. With roads having parking by residents and visitors on both sides of the road, two-way traffic on many roads is a challenge leading to minor accidents and fights. Swami Dayanand Marg from BSES office to Kailash Colony Market roundabout is crowded because of five schools in the area. With every fourth house being reconstructed, there is huge traffic of trucks, mixers and JCB’s. Traffic chaos around the M block market is primarily because of unauthorized parking created by Autos at the market exit point and parking on the road created by MCD parking contractor.
It is high time DCP (Traffic) South East, gets a study done to appreciate the traffic flow in various roads of GK-1 and take corrective action.
Some of actions that can help the residents are:
1. Create divider on Hans Raj Gupta Marg from Kendriya Vidhayalya red light to Sant Nagar red light.
a) Provide Red Light signals on Hans Raj Gupta Marg at: Entry/ Exit of M block Market on Hans Raj Gupta Marg
b) Entry and exit to road between C and E block leading to Kali Bari on Hans Raj Gupta Marg.
2. Make following roads ONE WAY from 8.00 am to 8.00 pm:
a) Swami Dayanand Marg from BSES office to DMS booth opposite Pahadiwala Gurdwara.
b) Road between M and C blocks from DMS booth opposite Pahadiwala Gurdwara to Hans Raj Gupta Road T point.
c) Road between C and E blocks from Kali Bari junction to Hans Raj Gupta T point.
d) Road between M and W blocks from entry to M block market at Hans Raj Gupta Marg to T point at Atal Park on Dayanand Sarswati Marg.
