My friend Rolly Jain, is quite an inspiration. An engineer by qualification, she is presently a homemaker. She has a passion for keeping her surroundings green and in the same spirit designs the landscape around CW and WW at Malibu Towne. Her home is a testimony of her efforts. Normally people have beautiful balconies but with her, she has lush green frontside, backside as well as SHAFT. I am sharing with all of you her account in first person. “The big reason to shift from the first floor to the ground floor was the amount of area we would have to make – a greener place. Front side, back side and the SHAFT AREA!!!! A shaft area is something that is either ugly or clean. But mostly it’s not green.
We were clear that we wanted to make it green so that we have a beautiful view from our dining window.
But as Rome was not built in a day, so was this. First, we thought of planting some herbs. But that did not work for us. Flowers also didn’t work as they need a lot of sunlight, which was not possible in Shaft.
After a lot of experimenting, we have come to a conclusion that palms, ferns, pothos, aralia, spiders, and dieffenbachias worked best for this part.
The best part is its oxygen bomb for all 6 houses (3 floors on both sides of Shaft). You don’t have to worry about the above-mentioned plants when you go on vacations, they sustain themselves for quite some time.
Slow and steady is the mantra of gardening. You don’t have to start with 100 plants all at once. Maybe Start with 5, divide and increase the numbers every 6 months. And every time, you have a greener place, a very beautiful energy-rich view as well as a source of oxygen”.
I am sure this will motivate many of us to do our bit towards a cleaner and greener space.
