At AGV-1, a group of residents or ‘Team – Ekam Urja’ as they would like to be called is on a mission to create awareness about cleanliness and waste segregation.
Mrs Sunidhi has taken the initiative and responsibility for this work. When asked about the significance of the name ‘Ekam Urja’, they said that it implies “the power to bring about change’. Team Ekam Urja’s members and volunteers have left no stone unturned to make their mission a success. Their vigorous efforts and hard work have helped the residents immensely to solve many household problems.
Team Ekam Urja has implemented many measures in society to spread awareness among the residents. In each tower, beside the elevator, a bin has been kept for throwing plastic waste only. In front of the mandir also two separate drums are kept, one for used flowers and the other for diyas and various puja materials like idol’s vastras and accessories.
It has also been observed that at many places like under trees, inside the parks beside the wall of the mandir and at many other places, people abandon old idols and photos of Gods and Goddesses, instead of immersing them properly. This is extremely sad as well as shameful. Members of Team Ekam Urja have taken this responsibility upon themselves to try and sensitize the residents about the negatives of leaving idols etc at various corners. They collect all the idols and accumulate them for sorting. Afterwards, all the vastras and accessories are segregated from the idols and the idols are given a proper immersion. Segregated vastras and other accessories are sent to an NGO, working for women’s empowerment where these vastras and accessories are recycled accordingly. On the occasion of Christmas, the team organized a walk to create awareness on waste segregation. Many children were a part of the event and they organised plays and skits that emphasized the importance of waste segregation.
The residents are thankful to the team for starting this movement and giving a strong message to society at large with their selfless acts and activities. Some residents say that at a time when everyone is busy in their own lives, the members of Team Ekam Urja have set an example by coming out and taking time from their own schedules to contribute towards and give back to society. Members of Team Ekam Urja urge other residents to come and be a part of the movement so that, a maximum number of people can benefit from the team’s initiatives.
