A fire incident happened in D block in a house at 1.00 am. The timely action by the Security agency got it under control by coordinating with Fire Brigade and police. Another fire incident was reported at C-21 Ramakrishna Vivekananda orphanage at gate no.4. around 2.45am. The alert security guards promptly called the Fire Brigade. Fire Brigade took more than one hour to contain the fire.
Third fire incident was reported by Lata Giri (D 108). The fire happened in the split AC on the 3rd floor, where a tenant stays. It spread to the sofa kept below AC and even caused a chandelier to burst. She says they quickly shut off the mains & the entire family evacuated the house.
Fire Deptt was called and she says that to their utter surprise the fire engines arrived very very quickly and controlled the fire. The entire house walls have become black with soot and she was lamenting that they had just finished renovation & white washing in Dec 2023. But at the same time, she was very thankful that no one was hurt.
She said even the fire Deptt did not give a reason for fire in AC, but the two possible reasons are short circuit in AC or old improper poor wiring. She called the second reason ‘unbelievable’ as they constructed the house 8 years back and used best quality electrical wiring.
It is very fortunate that guards noticed it and fire personnel acted promptly.
Looking at these fire incidents, a resident posted, “I am thinking to have smoke detector installed at my place. We can suggest the same to everyone. Does anyone have it? If yes then how is the performance?” (Also, read Pranati Bhattacharya’s article)
