Though Limited, “It’s Our Territory”

Presence of dogs on road leading to Biodiversity Park

Not allowed inside residential complexes and their survival restricted in colonies by those who object to their presence, it’s a challenge for the community dogs. Territorial by instinct, dogs have strong belongingness to the area they live in, and they go by certain decent rules. They guard their own territory sincerely, and will bark when see unknown persons, unusual activities or any dog from a different area.

In the current living set up of the humans, community dogs do not find favourable vibes in most inhabited places. They are barred from entering any muti-storied society; however, they can see from a distance their own species, as pets, being cajoled and spoiled with comfort lovingly walk beside the humans.

In colonies, the treatment that the community dogs confront is erratic. People come from different lanes and feed them with home food, but would turn their back if they wish to get a loving pat from them. This is the place where community dogs were born and have been guarding the area; but ever since people started living here, it’s strange that they are shunted away. Because of this tussle, some dogs become rough and bark/bite in defence which earns them a bad name. At the same time there are some residents who care for the community dogs. They provide them shelter near their homes and give food, and even have them treated if need arises.

As a result of restrictions for community dogs, the two roads leading to the Biodiversity Park where none of the sectors have their hold have become an open territory for the community dogs. We got to know from Grand Omaxe and the Forest Spa residents that its now scary to walk down to the park (Sector-92 has a direct entry to the park). They are afraid that the dogs may bark and run after them — a few incidents of dog bite have been doing the rounds. Many people have started going to the park by car or carry a stick.
